Conferences

The following events have been organized:

MSM

The international series of conference on magnetic and superconducting materials, known as "MSM" series is an interdisciplinary forum for exchange of the latest experimental results and theoretical advances in magnetism and superconductivity. Since 1999 this series of conferences has brought together world recognized experts and younger researchers to stimulate discussions and push leading edge research and collaborations and explore some of the big challenges in the field.

The First Regional (later changed to International) Conference on Magnetic and Superconducting Materials (MSM99) initiated a series of conferences planned to be held biannually in developing countries. The purpose of these meetings is to bring together regional and international groups of researchers and technologists to discuss new results and current problems in the areas of strongly correlated systems, superconductivity and magnetism, magnetic semiconductors and their materials. The objective of these conferences is to increase collaboration within the region and with the international community among the scientist. It is only through these sharing experiences with scientists around the world that one can fully benefit from natural and human resources. Using the vast technological and human resources in the region is the greatest opportunity and challenge for development and progress.

In collaboration with many international and national eminent colleagues from different universities and research centers, we organized the 1st MSM (MSM99) in the Department of Physics, Sharif University of Technology during 27-30 September 1999ΒΈ with 200 papers contributed by 400 researchers from 50 countries, which was a great success. Sixty international and national organizations supported the conf. scientifically and financially (over $100,000). It was dubbed "a First World conf. in a Third World country" The conference had a scientific and cultural atmosphere of a high standard, and the 2-volume-750-page Proceedings of the conference were published by the World Scientific in 2000.

Ever since, I have also helped organizing the subsequent MSM conferences, and have been the Co-chairman and a member of the Scientific Committee of these conferences. In 2001 the 2nd MSM conference (MSM01) was organized by Prof. S. Mahmood in Yarmouk University, Irbid, Jordan. The Proceedings were published by Physica B 321(2004). In 2003 the 3rd MSM (MSM03) was organized by Prof. A. Cheikhrouhou in Monastir, Tunisia. The Proceedings were published by Physica Status Solidi c 1 (2004), in 2005 the 4th MSM (MSM05) was organized by Dr. Toufik in Agadir, Morocco, and the Proceedings were published by Phys. Stat. Sol. c 3 (2006). In 2007 the 5th MSM (MSM05) was organized in collaboration with the University of Cambridge and the Uzbekistan Al'Mamun Academy of Sciences, in Khiva, Uzbekistan. The 6th MSM (MSM09) conference was held during 11-14 Nov. 2009 in India. Overall, MSM has been a very successful series of conferences with many eminent international scientists attending each conference. The 7th MSM (MSM11) conference is scheduled to be held in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia in Oct. 11-14, 2011.

WMSM

In conjunction with the MSM series, I have initiated a biannual International Workshop on Magnetic and Superconducting Materials (WMSM) to be organized biannually in different countries in the years between the MSM conferences. The 1st WMSM (WMSM08) will be held in the National Chung Hsing University, Taichung, Taiwan, during July 4-10, 2008. A preliminary discussion and agreement has been reached to have the next workshop in the Moscow State University, Russia in 2010. The objective of this series of workshops is to provide the opportunity for young scientists and graduate students from the developing countries to actively participate and carry out various joint projects with their counterparts from different countries.

Advances in Superconductivity

The 1st National Conference on Advances in Superconductivity is organized in collaboration with the Center of Excellence in Complex Systems and Condensed Matter (CSCM) and the Physics Society of Iran (PSI), and was held in the Department of Physics, Sharif University of Technology during 29-30 May, 2008 (9-10 Khordaad 1387). The goals of the conference are to explore the recent advances in the science and technology of superconductivity, and form a network of scientists and researchers active in the field.

Considering the technological, industrial, and economic potentials here, and the abundance of interested and active researchers who are currently engaged in the field of superconductivity throughout the country, much success in the field of superconductivity may reasonably be expected in the near future, and it is for that reason that scientific research in this field should be encouraged and carried out on a large scale and its application be taken into serious consideration. From this point of view, we are expected to support this foremost field of research, and hope that the superconductivity subject be placed among the country's scientific research strategic priorities. Therefore, organizing this 1st National Conference on Advances in Superconductivity is timely and well justified.

The 2nd National Conference on Advances in Superconductivity (NCAS2) is organized in collaboration with the Center of Excellence in Complex Systems and Condensed Matter (CSCM) and the Physics Society of Iran (PSI), and was held in the Department of Physics, Shahid Chamran University in Ahwaz during 3-4 Feb., 2010 (14-15 Bahman 1388). The goals of the conference are to explore the recent advances in the science and technology of superconductivity, and form a network of scientists and researchers active in the field.

The 3rd National Conference on Advances in Superconductivity (NCAS3) will be organized and held in the Department of Physics at Kashan University in May 2012.

Iran Physics Education and Research Priorities Seminar

The 1st Iran Physics Education and Research Priorities Seminar was held by the Physics Branch of the Iran Academy of Sciences on 25 Feb. 2010 (6 Esfand 1389). The goals of the seminar was a thorough assessment of the present status of Iran physics education and research, and finding the ways for their improvement.
