Anomalies vs Strings: A Race towards the Correct Black Hole Modification

Abstract : I will discuss that how the quantum corrections of different origins could lead to a profound modification to our understanding of charged black holes. With a toolbox consisting of perturbative calculations and general rigorous arguments, we have studied the large, and low, mass limits of the corrected extremality condition. For the large-mass limit, we used the Weak Gravity Conjecture proposed by C. Vafa, N. Arkani-Hamed, and L. Motl in light of the conformal anomaly. We derived a strong and straightforward inequality in terms of the conformal charges of the low-energy effective field theory. For the low-mass limit, we have shown that vacuum stability implies that there should be a minimum for the black hole’s mass. In conclusion, we have obtained two general results which can be applied to justify modified gravity theories of different sorts. Additionally, I will explain that how our findings can make an impact on our understanding of the information paradox and the dark matter problem.
