Non-relativistic effective field theories and its applications to cosmology

Abstract: Field theories in the non-relativistic limit are of interest in a wide range of physical situations. In particular – in the context of cosmology – it is an appropriate tool for studying the axion dark matter and superradiant instabilities. In this talk, I will introduce a systematic and self consistent way of taking the non-relativistic limit of a field theory from which one can read off the leading order theory for the non-relativistic system as well as its relativistic corrections. I will discuss possible applications of the formalism to cosmology.
