Vacuum decay and bubble nucleation in f(R) gravity

Abstract: In this talk I first review the concept of vacuum decay in quantum mechanics and field theory. Then I will review our study of vacuum decay and bubble nucleation in models of f(R) higher curvature gravity building upon the analysis of Coleman-De Luccia (CDL). We could show that higher curvature terms may have nontrivial effects on the tunneling rate and bubble size. Our main focus is on Starobinsky model and its higher power extensions though the formalism is rather general. This talk is based on the article: arXiv:1810.01391.
